Artificial Lens

Different types of lenses can be implanted during the surgery. The most frequently used is a foldable lens, going through a very small incision in the eye; the power of the lens is calculated during the preop examinations. It seems interesting to try to achieve the best possible distance vision without glasses, and to wear readers when needed. However, some patients might have other wishes.

There is a new type of lens coming on the market, giving the ability to see well at distance, and to read without glasses. However, there has been a lot of problems in the past with these "bifocal" lenses, and the new ones are still under investigation. They might reduce contrast sensitivity, and induce halos and glare at night.
